Terms of Use

1. Agreement to these Terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Beau Schmitz, a United States individual operator and the operator of Anchor ("Anchor", "we", "us", or "our"). They govern your access to and use of the Anchor iOS app, this website, and related services.

By downloading or using Anchor, beginning a free trial, or confirming a purchase, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Anchor. Your use of the iOS app is also subject to Apple's applicable App Store terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Anchor. If you have not reached the age at which you may enter a binding agreement in your location, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms for you. Do not use Anchor where its use would violate applicable law.

3. Purpose and important limitations

Anchor provides religious, devotional, educational, journaling, and habit-building content. It is intended to support personal Scripture reading, prayer, reflection, and spiritual routines.

Anchor is not a medical, mental-health, counselling, pastoral-care, crisis, or emergency-response service. It does not provide diagnosis, treatment, professional advice, or a substitute for care from a qualified professional or trusted spiritual leader. If you may be in danger or experiencing an emergency, contact local emergency services or an appropriate crisis service immediately.

Spiritual interpretation is personal. Anchor does not guarantee that content, prompts, or automated thematic matching will be relevant, complete, suitable, or consistent with the beliefs of every church, denomination, or individual. You remain responsible for your decisions and for checking Scripture in context.

4. Your content and local data

You may write prayers, reflections, goals, notes, and other material in Anchor ("Your Content"). You retain ownership of Your Content. You are responsible for what you enter and for maintaining appropriate device and backup security.

As described in our Privacy Policy, the text of Your Content is designed to remain on your device and is not uploaded to Anchor's backend. Deleting the app, resetting Anchor data, changing devices, or changing backup settings may result in permanent loss. Anchor is not responsible for content lost because it was not available in an Apple-managed backup or because of events outside our reasonable control.

5. Subscriptions, free trials, and billing

Anchor may offer auto-renewable weekly and yearly subscriptions, including an introductory free trial where displayed. The current duration, trial period, price, currency, and included features are shown in the app before you confirm a purchase. Storefront prices may vary by location and may include applicable taxes.

• Payment is charged to your Apple ID through the App Store after you confirm the purchase.
• If a free trial is offered, it converts to the selected paid subscription unless you cancel before the trial ends.
• Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it through your Apple subscription settings at least 24 hours before the end of the current trial or billing period.
• Apple may charge your account for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription in iOS Settings under your Apple ID subscriptions. Deleting Anchor does not cancel a subscription.
• You can use Restore Purchases in Anchor to restore an eligible active entitlement associated with your Apple ID.

Apple processes billing, cancellation, and refund requests under its policies. Except where required by law, Anchor cannot issue App Store refunds directly. Any price change will be handled through Apple's required notice and consent processes.

Nothing in this section limits a cancellation, refund, withdrawal, or other consumer right that cannot lawfully be limited. Where mandatory law gives you a withdrawal right for digital services, Apple's purchase process and applicable App Store terms govern how that right is exercised and whether you consent to immediate performance.

6. Anchor content, Bible text, and license

Anchor and its original design, software, written prompts, graphics, branding, compilation, and other original material are owned by or licensed to Beau Schmitz and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

Bible translations and other attributed works remain the property of their respective owners or are used according to their applicable public-domain or licensing terms. Current sources and acknowledgments are listed on the Licenses and Attributions page. Availability may vary by version, territory, or future licensing arrangements. You may use content inside Anchor for personal, non-commercial devotional use. Any export or sharing feature is subject to the attribution and usage limits shown in the app.

Subject to these Terms and an active entitlement where required, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to use Anchor on Apple devices you own or control as permitted by the App Store usage rules. No other rights are granted.

7. Acceptable use

You must not:

• copy, sell, rent, sublicense, distribute, or commercially exploit Anchor except where the law expressly permits it;
• reverse engineer, decompile, bypass, interfere with, or defeat security, subscription, integrity, or technical protections except where that restriction is prohibited by law;
• use Anchor or its services to violate law, infringe rights, transmit malicious material, or interfere with another person or system;
• misrepresent your association with Anchor or use Anchor's name, logo, or content in a way that suggests endorsement without permission; or
• attempt to overload, scrape, automate access to, or misuse supporting services.

8. Third-party services

Anchor relies on services supplied by Apple, Google Firebase, GitHub, and other providers described in our Privacy Policy. Those services may be governed by separate terms and policies. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control, but we will take reasonable care in selecting and using providers.

9. Changes, availability, and termination

We may improve, add, change, suspend, or discontinue features where reasonably necessary for product, security, licensing, technical, or legal reasons. We do not promise that Anchor will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device or operating-system version.

You may stop using Anchor at any time. We may restrict access to supporting services if you materially breach these Terms, misuse the service, or create a security or legal risk. Subscription cancellation and refunds remain governed by the subscription section above and applicable law.

10. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Anchor is provided on an "as available" basis. We do not make warranties about spiritual outcomes, personal results, uninterrupted availability, or the accuracy or completeness of devotional interpretation.

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, statutory warranty, withdrawal right, privacy right, or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded. This includes mandatory protections available under European Union, European Economic Area, United States federal, and applicable state law. Where a guarantee applies and our liability may lawfully be limited, our liability is limited to the remedies permitted by applicable law.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Beau Schmitz will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive loss, loss of profits, loss of opportunity, or loss of data arising from or connected with Anchor. This limitation does not apply where liability cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

You are responsible for maintaining device security and appropriate backups. Anchor is not liable for local journal entries, notes, progress, or preferences lost because of deletion, reset, device failure, backup configuration, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

12. Apple-specific terms

Apple is not responsible for maintaining or supporting Anchor. If Anchor fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price paid for the app, if any, as required by its terms. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Anchor. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce the applicable terms against you.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by applicable United States law. If state law must govern a particular issue, the applicable law will be determined under ordinary conflict-of-law rules. This section does not deprive you of mandatory protections under the law where you live or any right to bring a claim in a court that has lawful jurisdiction.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as Anchor changes or legal requirements develop. We will publish the updated Terms at this URL, update the effective date, and provide additional notice where a material change requires it. Continuing to use Anchor after updated Terms take effect means you accept them, except where applicable law requires another form of consent.

15. General

If a provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply. A delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver of that right. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent. We may transfer them as part of a lawful reorganization or transfer of Anchor, subject to applicable law.
